TULSI

Ocimum tenuiflorum or Ocimum sanctum

Tulsi is known in common English as Holy Basil and in Sanskrit as “the incomparable one”, and referred to as the Elixir of Life in Ayurvedic medicine. It is a tender perennial with highly fragrant leaves and blossoms, and contains anti-inflammatory phenols extracted in the distillation process that help skin retain moisture, reduce roughness and help smooth the skin. The hydrosol also contains small amounts of the essential oil, which is anti-bacterial, like many essential oils.  

Rosemarinic acid, another powerful anti-inflammatory compound contained in Tulsi, is not extracted in the distillation process and can be found instead in my Lotion Scrub, which is comprised of the various dried plant materials used in distillation combined with Magnesium sulfate (Epsom salts) and a blend of healing oils. 

The hydrosol has a fresh, spicy and unmistakable fragrance like a sweet basil.
