Artemisia annua
One of my favorite scents, Sweet Annie is a soft, super fragrant fern-like native of China that has been naturalized in the U.S. It is used in TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) to combat fever and malaria thanks to its namesake compound Artemisinin, which was isolated from the plant to develop an effective treatment for malaria within the Western medicine model. Trials are underway to study the effects of Sweet Annie’s compounds on viral infections and cancer.
Sweet Annie’s strong fragrance, a sweet, minty, balsamic scent, carries with it a number of therapeutic properties; it is antiplasmodial, antiviral, antimicrobial, antitumor, anti inflammatory, antioxidant, and antifungal.
